Are You Hiding in Plain Site?

Enhance your online presence with great niche-related features

These days, any serious business owner with a brain in their head has a website or blog to help market their business. A website with your own domain name (URL) establishes a professional online presence and offers a central hub for all of your online and offline marketing efforts. However, if you have not updated your website recently or posted fresh content to it, it铆s time to enhance your online presence to improve your chances of succeeding in a competitive niche.

If your website is more than a few years old, chances are it might not be mobile-friendly. With the majority of web traffic coming from mobile devices, Smartphones, and tablet computers, this should be your first enhancement if it isn’t mobile responsive at this point. Honestly, I am amazed that there are still sites out there that aren’t.

Second, do you have a blog? A blog is a fun and interesting way to present fresh niche-related content on a regular basis. Write the content, or commission it, upload it, and set the publication date. Many folks don’t like to have a blog on their site, and in actuality, it is a great way to get found in the search engines like Google, Bing, and Yahoo. A blog should be part of everyone’s SEO (Search Engine Optimization) strategy!

For those Luddites (and I use the term lovingly) still out there that face these 2 issues, the good news is that you can kill two birds with WordPress (Of course you knew I was going to go there!)

WordPress includes 2 key items that can really help your niche business take off. The first are themes and the second are plugins.

Themes set the overall appearance and functionality of the site, such as a text-based blog versus a photo blog. Search through all the free professional-looking themes available to find the one that is right for the look and feel of your business.

Plugins are little mini-programs that add a range of functions and tools to your pages and site. These can range from social media links that will let you promote your site on all your accounts and allow your customers to promote your site as well to a number of exciting niche options that will make your site a magnet for customers, such as:

– Auctions
– A forum or discussion board
– Top niche products lists with links to buy
– An article directory
– A membership site, free or paid
– A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) portal

And much more.

If your site isn铆t getting the kind of traffic you want or enough repeat visitors, update your site/blog, add functionality, and see what a difference it can make to your profits.

I just re-upped my WordPress site and it will take me days to straighten it out. Oh well, I will wait for that snow day and settle in.

I have to make a decision about my WP site since I have been using the free version and am running out of space. Don’t have time now with the holidays to work on it but I feel it coming! Thanks for hosting this challenge, Paul. It is fun finding new friends.

With this post you have hit a sore spot with me.

Since I am “the office writer” it’s supposed to be who takes care of our corporate website’s planned blog – for all the right reasons you’ve mentioned.
I just have the hardest time coming up with content that sounds professional and credible. See, we are in the IT field. While I don’t think I’m a complete Luddite as you like to call it, I don’t feel qualified to write about virtualization tools, cyber security or tips on how to choose a CMS.
I did a trial run outsourcing it to a marketing specialist, but they overdid it IMHO 馃槈

It can be a fine line between getting the content just right and overdoing it. It can also take time to find the right marketing specialist – something you need to work with a few before you find the one that resonates with you.
