WordPress 3.0 is released!

Have you heard of  “Thelonious” yet?

I am not talking about Thelonious Monk, the awesome jazz musician, but Thelonious, the upcoming version of WordPress! WordPress 3.0 is codename, “Thelonious!”

Over 218 contributors have worked on this version! And, it  adds more than 1,200 bug fixes and new features to WordPress!

Some of the cool new features include…

  •  For started, there are more than 1,200 bug fixes! Not enough? How about speed optimization so your site will load faster? Cool? Absolutely!
  • The next thing you will notice that is different is the Dashboard! It has been made to be lighter and faster!
  • Custom Menus. One of the biggest changes in this version is how custom menus are handled. You can now create your own custom navigation menus, comprised of pages, categories, drop-down menus, and even redirect links.
  • Are you tired of just having regular Post available to you? Custom Post Types will let some themes  add different of content. You will still have your regular blog posts that you know and love. But now you can create a custom type of posts for highlighting photographs, discussions/forums, calendar events and other things!
  • Developers and network administrators will appreciate the long-awaited merge of MU and WordPress, enabling multi-site functionality, which makes it possible to run dozens of individual sites from a single WordPress installation.
  • A new default theme called Twenty Ten, which takes the place of the antiquated Kubrick theme (finally). This theme allows you to easily add custom backgrounds, change the header graphic, utilize shortcodes in your posts, and use custom menu.
  • There is a new Updates SubPanel that will let you update WordPress and all your plugins at once, with a single click. At this point, I am not a huge fan of multiple upgrades to plugins at one time… but I will continue to look at this feature.

There is much more to love about the latest version of WordPress.
