Unable To Add Comments To WordPress

wordpress_comments

I received a question about a reader’s website – it seems that comments were not being permitted on his WordPress website:

I hope you can help me! I cannot for the life of me add comments to any post! We are a few days away from going live and launching our site. I just found out that we cannot post any comments to any of the entries we have created!

The company that created the theme said it is not an issue with the theme.  When I switched to the default theme, I still cannot post any comments, but at least I see the message, “Comments are closed”.

I also tried deactivating all plugins. That did not do anything. I made sure that the Add Comments box is checked. I am very frustrated. Can you help? I hope that this is simple to fix!

Thanks.

Dear Frustrated (I feel like I am writing an advice column now…)

Hopefully, I have a quick and easy solution for you.

Login to your dashboard and look under Settings and then the  Discussion page
1.Allow people to post comments on new articles -should be set
2. Uncheck (or increasethe number of days) for the item: Automatically close comments on articles older than ___

That should do the trick! Let me know how it turns out for you!

    OK, now I’m confused . . I have neither of these checked (and I’m pretty sure I never un-checked them/turned them off to begin with . . . thus unchecked/’off’ was the default setting . . . ???) . . . and folks can comment on my posts at my site . . . ???

I would like to say the above fixed the inability for comments, but doesn’t seem to have.

Also noticed, there isn’t a read more a the end of the article abbreviation. Have to click the article title for it to expand.

Both are issues after a refresh and even in another browser.

    Thanx, Boots
