Happy聽 New Year! 2020 – a new decade (depending on how you count it), but definitely a new year.
Along with the new year comes a new Ultimate Blog Challenge.
Not only do I coordinate and run the challenge, each time it happens (which is once a quarter), I am a participant! Since January has 31 days in it, I will be blogging 31 times this month – my plan is to write one time a day, each and every day. It sounds so simple and can be done easily, *IF* I have the discipline. My fingers are crossed, and my calendar has a daily task to blog!
Some people pick out a word for the year. Do you do that? I have not yet picked one out… yet. Words that come to mind and are contenders are:
- Grandest
- Service
- Fun
- Commit
Do you have a word?
New Year’s day is usually a restart for many people; a renaissance or rebirth. It is a chance to start anew. Of course, any day can be a new day and it seems that starting fresh on 1/1 is a perfect way to do it.
While this post is a little off the normal topics that I write about, don’t worry, ‘normal’ postings will commence tomorrow. If there is something you would like to know about, leave a comment below and share it with me.
Oh… if you haven’t signed up for the Ultimate Blog Challenge, come join us!

I am so happy to be here for the start of the UItimate Blog Challenge after a season where I nearly died and chose to live instead. My word for 2020 is (fittingly) “Intrepid” – bold, adventuresome, audacious and more – it feels so good to reintroduce myself to this way I once was – not all that long ago, actually.
Love this post. It invigorates me to be intrepid for the next 366 (ironically?) a leap year is here!
Paul says
Ohhh! I like Intrepid! A leap year is always a fun time – an extra day to do something special!

Here I am again. Seems I’ve been doing this UBC for years, and I have been – since 2011 (before your time as moderator and inspirer), actually. I’m glad to be back and hope to connect with new members and old. No word for me (I gave that up years ago). Happy New Year!
Paul says
I need to go back and see when I took over the UBC. I was a participant for YEARS before I took the reins. It is always a good time when we reconvene! Thanks for being around for all this time, Alana!
Roy A Ackerman, PhD, EA says
Why use a word when a phrase will do?
Paul says
A Phrase is like multiple words, so it could be that much more powerful! I like it!

Happy New Year! Excited to be back participating in the UBC. Furthest I’ve ever made was 18 days through the challenge. It’s my goal to complete all 31 this year! My word to guide me through 2020 is Relentless. It’s already proving to be quite fruitful!
Paul says
Welcome Back, Shelly! Relentless is a great word to use! Stick with it and get in all 31! Let me know if I can help.
Martha says
I don’t usually choose a word but if I did it would by YAY!!! my FB is back! LOL This is the beginning of my 5th year with UBC and so far I have completed every challenge! Thanks for putting all this together and have a super Happy New Year!
Judi Merrill says
Hi Paul.
I played a game on facebook which asked for a word for 2020 that begins with the first letter of your name (Judi).
I choose ‘jocund’ – cheerful; merry; blithe; lighthearted; suggestive of high spirits and lively mirthfulness
That’s a year to look forward to ;o)
As I look forward to your blog challenge!
Paul says
Thanks for improving my vocabulary! I did not know ‘jocund.’ Enjoy the challenge, Judi!
Alice Gerard says
My word is adventure. And I have a really exciting one planned for this year, the last year of the decade!!!!
Paul says
So you are in the ‘End of the Decade’ camp! I like seeing the people debate it!
Adventures are good!
