I get questions asked about WordPress all the time. I decided that since these questions were asked so many time, there are probably people out there that still have these questions, but have not asked! I am going to dedicate Friday posts to answering questions! Each Friday will be an answer to a question (or questions) that come in during the week.
One of the biggest questions that people having starting out with WordPress is, “What is the difference between Pages and posts?” This is a great question becuase both of these have content on them and both can look the same.
Posts
WordPress was originally developed as a tool for blogging. If you are using the blog feature, then you will be using posts for the majority of your writing.
Posts are ‘articles’, ‘writings’, or ‘entries’ that get displayed in the most recent to oldest order (otherwise known as ‘reverse chronological order’). These appear on your on your blog鈥檚 home page.
WordPress makes it easy to share posts via聽RSS feeds. When you create and publish a post, your readers can be notified that the new content is there via the RSS feed.
Pages
Now that you know what posts are, let’s talk about pages. Pages are meant to be static; they aren’t really meant to change very often. Yes, you can change them if the need arises, but for the most part, a page is written once, and left alone. They generally include information that is timeless.
Typical pages include:
- About Us
- Contact Us
- Services
- Privacy
- Disclaimers
- Directions
- and those types of things.
Because Posts get created frequently, RSS feeds apply. Pages, on the other hand, do not get shared via RSS because they are ‘Set It and Forget It’ types of content.
There are some other differences, but for most people, these are the significant ones.
Did you have a problem understanding the differences? I hope this helps!
What other questions do you have?

Okay Paul – it’s decided. You are my #GoToGuy for WordPress from now on! hehe
I am going to be launching my new website before Jan 1, 2015, and you will be getting a lot of queries from this #TechnoPhobeNamedKitty! 馃槈
THANK YOU for reminding us about this basic difference between Posts and Pages. During my last Facebook Challenge, I created a separate PAGE for my posts, and hence my blog’s RSS FEED never got updated.
This time, I am just penning them as posts! LOL
Keep writing and helping your audience #HUGSSSSS
Lots of love
