It is that time again! WordPress 3.3.2 has been released. While it is not a major upgrade (lots of new functionality) it is still important that you upgrade your WordPress software!
So, “What changed?”, you might ask… Here is a quick account of the changes found under version 3.3.2:
Three external libraries included in WordPress received security updates:
- Plupload (version 1.5.4), which WordPress uses for uploading media.
- SWFUpload, which WordPress previously used for uploading media, and may still be in use by plugins.
- SWFObject, which WordPress previously used to embed Flash content, and may still be in use by plugins and themes.
In addition, WordPress 3.3.2 also addresses:
- Limited privilege escalation where a site administrator could deactivate network-wide plugins when running a WordPress network under particular circumstances.
- Cross-site scripting vulnerability when making URLs clickable.
- Cross-site scripting vulnerabilities in redirects after posting comments in older browsers, and when filtering URLs.
Now, this all might sound techie and make you scratch your head wondering what it all means! Here is a quick test I suggest you do.
See where it say that vulnerabilities have been addressed? Well, any vulnerability that is addressed, is something that you would want to install and install & upgrade!

Is there a chance that this new update will make some of my plugins not work? Will it bring up some issues on my site like break up the whole thing? I need to be sure before attempting an upgrade.

It is possible… Make sure you back everything up first! This is not a high risk upgrade, but always back up first! If I may recommend WP Twin, that is what I use everyday! I highly recommend it!
