I woke up this morning with a song in my head – it was the theme from the movie, Arthur. Specifically, I kept singing the opening line, over and over and over.
Someone who turns your heart around…
Anyway…
I was drinking my coffee and getting ready for the day when I found an article by Social Media icon, Ian Cleary.
Now I know why I woke up with that song in my head! I found a very simple and easy to follow post that is going to be changing the way I do things.
Ian shares 5 awesome maintenance tips to help increase your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) for your website. Not only does he share the tip, he explains how to do it and then gives you an action point to follow!
Are There Pages Indexed that Shouldn’t be?
It’s great to get your pages indexed by Google, but only if they are the right pages. Why would you index pages such as a ‘thank you’ page? What value does this provide to anyone, if they find it?
You always want to present good information to people searching Google so, any time you can improve their search experience, you should take action.
What you want to do is go through this list and identify any items that should not be indexed.
From my list, one of the pages I came across was ‘confirmation’, which is similar to a thank you page. This page is no use to anyone, so I de-indexed it.
I use Yoast WordPress SEO plugin and there’s an option to de-index the file within the advanced settings. If you don’t have this option for your web pages, you’ll need to ask your developer to set the no-index flag.

Nice list! SEO is one of those things that I love to hate, and I fully admit to ignoring it more often that not. Maybe this will help me manage it better.
(And I totally clicked this from FB just to see what Dudley Moore had to do with blogging.)

You cracked me up with that, Cindy! I have a list of, um, 5 SEO tasks that I need to go and review now! I admit that I get sloppy when it comes to SEO. I do ‘okay’ with out it because I provide great content (or so I like to think!). However… if I ramped up my SEO efforts, I can concentrate on world domination! Bwahhahahahah….
