I recently wrote a post about some of the settings with Sexy Bookmarks and some of the things that you should be aware of.
Well, they recently released another upgrade to it so I had to go and check it out.
Here is a little secret – I don’t ALWAYS update my plugins when a new version comes out! It is not because I am lazy or I do not want to, I just do not want to install something that is not going to benefit me. Yup – it is all about me 馃檪
Are you the type of person who is diligent and looks to see what actually got updated? I am! And if I don’t see a compelling reason to install the upgrade, I will wait until the next update.
For example, Sexy Bookmarks last 2 updates stated:
version 4.0.6.4
- Fixed bug where background image would appear even if it was disabled
version 4.0.6.3
- Fixed potential bug for category pages & manual mode
- Added a topbar with sharing options
- Added support to manage topbar
- Optimize for performance
- Add the tweet button in the like buttons set
- Fix bugs related to manual mode
- Fix bugs related to category pages
- symbolic dir path is supported as custom path
- Fix the bug related to special characters in page title
So you can see that the latest version, 4.0.6.4 is not very significant at all! Well, not for me at least. The release before that, version 4.0.6.3 certainly had more fixes in it that would warrant the upgrade.
If I see something about Security listed, I usually backup my entire website using WPTwin and then install the plugin.
Where can you see all the changes, under the ChangeLog of the plugin.
That is where you will see the changes.
By the way, the performance-slowing, data sending option that I described in Sexy Bookmark Performance. If you changed them as I suggested, they will remain in place with the latest upgrade!

I don’t always upgrade and here’s why: I like to wait til they get all the glitches taken care of. Many times, you’ll upgrade only to get an e-mail in a few days saying there’s a glitch. If the plugin is serving me well, I don’t upgrade.

Excellent point, Martha!
As i stated, Security updates are a HUGE trigger for me to get the update. Otherwise, I can wait.
Recently I have seen a lot of upgrades become available with the only change being localization. For those who do know (yet) know what localization means, let me define it. Localization is a fancy word that simply means it has been written in another language for another country. For example, if a plugin in translated into Norwegian, and that is the only change in the version, I do not need to upgrade since I cannot read/speak Norwegian (much to the displeasure of my Dad!)
Thanks for sharing, Martha!
