When you talk about Blogging and Social Networking, you quickly discover that both share similarities. Both contain features and certain characteristics or each other. Both are aimed at creating a ‘following’ on the web. Both look to reach out to as many people as possible; all of these followers share a common internet.
Another similarity is that both these concepts have existed in cyber space for at least 10 years, but in the initial stages both were rather exclusive of one another. If you were around back then, you may remember that both were consider as a fad by many people! Only recently can you say that they have almost merged in what they are trying to accomplish. Blogging is essentially done to channel your thoughts out on to an online journal. You also want other people to read what you have written. The same is true for Social Networking.
Both methods go about getting in touch with people from all over the world who you would not have otherwise known. Blogs do this as do the various social networking sites. They are both hubs where the young and the old(er) gather to exchange ideas.
The origination of the term ‘blog’ is interesting. It was initially called a ‘weblog’ meaning a log or a diary or a journal that helps you to record your thoughts on a day to day basis. In the early days of blogs, it was rather in its primitive stages and was not used as a sales tool as many sites use it today. This term was later shortened to blog and this is when free blogging services like Blogger became extremely popular.
As mentioned earlier, blogging today is not restricted to only maintaining a journal. It has truly become a platform where various kinds of people from all walks of life, whether they have the same ideologies or not, conflate, and discuss the matters they think are important to them.
Blogging today has come to become an important tool for advertisers that want to market their products online, for politicians who wish to reach their constituents, and for experts to share their knowledge on a particular topic. It is also becoming the tool of choice to keep in touch and share with friends and family members.
Moreover, creating a blog and maintaining it does not cost a lot of money. Many people now has a personal blog and it is almost free. You do not need to be a computer engineer or a graphic or web designer in order to create a good looking blog.
Hosting companies make it easy to start up a blog. In fact, we will install your blog for free – nice and simple!
Blogging is an ideal way to make new friends and come in contact with more people than you can do in person – you can ‘meet’ people from all sides of the world. You will get a very diverse set of viewpoints.
Blogs can also be for the sole purpose of making new friends and socializing. That is why social networking sites have picked up the clue and in these times social networking and blogging has, to some extent, been combined, and almost become indistinguishable.
It would be interesting to note that the word ‘blog’ is both a noun and a verb. This leads us to the fact that blogging in some sense also helps get rid of hassles of publishing. Though your work will not come out in print, you know that you can publish your work – your articles, pictures, videos, etc – yourself through you blog.
It may be your own personal journal that you wish others to read or you works of art in terms of the stories or articles that you write, or the movies that you make. You can share almost any content with the world at large.
It must also be noted that just like you do not have to be a web designer to create your own blog, you need not be a professional writer, a film maker or a photographer to publish content on your blog. It is just a space for you to indulge in your own small artistic pursuits and share those moments with others. Blogging must therefore be exploited to its full potential.
Here at I Need Help With WordPress, we aim to help you with your blog creation, in both technical aspects as well as content and other aspects of blogging. Remember, we will install your blog for free if you really wanted one.

Setting up wordpress is very easy, as you know. Navigating a domain name and hosting is very frightening for some though.
I recommend that people start with wordpress for a website CMS, until they need something they can’t do with it.
Looks like you have a good plan here.

Thanks, Charlotte – I agree with this. There are some ‘tricky’ and technical things that have to be set-up one time. Getting through this can be either a struggle if you are not sure what to do. There are plenty of resources out on the web for you to learn and understand it, or you can ask someone that knows what to do to handle it for you.
Once in place, you usually do not need to ever mess with it again!
Thanks for stopping by.
