Happy New Year! And a Happy 2018 to come!
I really like the New Year! January 1st! It is a time to start over.
Or, a time to continue.
A time to regenerate.
A time to reflect.
A time to do it all over again.
To me, the new year is not a time for broken or failed resolutions. It is a chance to clean the slate (if necessary) and come out full steam ahead.
What is on tap for you? Any big plans? In no particular order, here is what I have planned:
1. Ultimate Blog Challenge – The Ultimate Blog Challenge is a challenge for you. You are to write 31 blog posts in 31 days. You do not have to write one a day (but I found it helps!) – you are just ‘agreeing’ to write and post 31 posts during the month of July. You are held accountable to yourself and to the Challenge Community. The challenge takes place every January, April, July, and October!By the way – there is nothing special about joining! If you have a blog, you can participate! All you have to do is sign up at The Ultimate Blog Challenge and start writing!I can’t recall how many challenges I have participated in – maybe this is my 15th or 16th Challenge!Whoops! I almost forgot to mention… it is FREE! It will cost nothing!
2. The Grandest Version of Myself What does this mean? Simply put, I am going to consciously and consistently work at being the grandest version of myself in all aspects of my life. In my business, in my personal life, in my community… everywhere. It is the chance to make continual improvements and tweak everything. It sounds like a big task and it is! The good thing about it is that I have ALL YEAR long to do this! (and, technically, it won’t stop when 2019 rings in!)
3. An Hour of Power (modified) – With #2 on the list, I guess everything else is going to be a subset of it. An Hour of Power refers to spending 20 minutes a day reading, 20 minutes a day meditating, and 20 minutes a day exercising. I plan on doing this every day for a year. Sounds easy enough, but sometimes “life gets in the way” and we skip over things.
4. A Daily Email – This idea is something I am toying with – something I am still working on. I am thinking of starting up a Daily email series entitled, Measures With the Maestro – and it would be a short, easy to read email about business and life. If you are on my email list already, you will get more details about this soon… Real soon if I want to do it daily!
5. More Gratitude – Gratitude is a passion of mine. It is also the topic of my very first website, All About Gratitude! I want to express my gratitude even more than I do now. When I express my gratitude, it may be that no one hears it. Even when silent, it will be felt.
So, these are the top 5 things on my list of 2018. They are not resolutions; they are more like guiding pathways for me to follow.
What is on YOUR list for 2018? Leave a comment below and share at least one!

Great post! My big thing this year is to get more written. I love writing and I have so many stories in my head I want to share with people. Which means I’ll be giving up things and taking on other things.
Paul says
This reminds me of the saying, “Get rid of the good to make room for the great!” You can do it, Beth!

So glad the UBC is on top! LOL I still don’t remember how I stumbled over it January 2016 but I’m so glad I did. It not only raised my views and comments on my blog but I have met the most wonderful blogger friends. I like you daily email idea also! I don’t make any resolutions just hope that the year will continue to move in the right direction and the good Lord blesses us all.
Paul says
Of course, the UBC is on top – LOL! THere is always so much to do – so if I get some of the 5 done on a regular basis, I am not going to beat myself up.
With that said, I am certainly going to try to get them ALL done.
Welcome back, Martha!

The hour of power appeals to me – I have to exercise everyday because of back issues and sometimes I get so involved in things I skip it – not good! I don’t spend enough time quieting my mind, either – or even reading actual books. The “Grandest version of myself” is a worthwhile goal, too. This year, I want to invest more in friendships, and making small changes that may lead to bigger changes. Good luck to both of us in the UBC!
Paul says
The accumulation of small changes leads to bigger changes, Alana! Good luck!
Shelly Maynard says
I love your Hour of Power goal – I need to try that as well! One of my main goals of the year is to create better content for my blog. I did a lot of reflection in 2017 after some health issues mid-year and found my voice again. Participating in the UBC is really going to help keep me on track!
Paul says
I am looking forward to hearing what you have to say on your site, Shelly!
Roy A Ackerman, PhD, EA says
FWIW, Paul, my clients told me they were NOT fans of daily (ok, 5 days a week) eMail. They preferred a once-a-week missive.
But, let’s see what your folks have to say.
Paul says
I agree that it is NOT for everyone and expectations need to be set early on. When people know they are getting an email a day AND that email is enjoyable to read, recipients are happy about it.
And, I am already sending out an email a day on a different site – https://AllAboutGratitude.com – and thousands of people get a daily Gratitude Burst from that site!
Jeanine Byers says
Love this post and your intentions for the year! I would like to create more 20-minute exercise experiences this year, myself. Wishing you the best with all you have planned!!
Paul says
Thanks, Jeanine! Go ahead and implement your own plan!
Di says
I like the hour of power idea. Mmmm. May just adopt it myself.
Paul says
Go ahead, Di! Let me know how that works out for you – I will report back my results as well!
Bella says
“Grandest Version of Myself ” Love this!! I am needing a reset and think I have found my 2018 theme. Thanks
Paul says
Hi the reset button and go with it!
Elisa says
Love this list! Hmm – how about a top 3? Take better care of myself, be present in the moment (and not distracted by my phone), and write more freely and not with a fear of what others may think about what I have to say.
Paul says
Ohhh! I like those, Elisa!
Brenda Marie says
Happy New year. This are looking better this year. I love your list.
Paul says
Do you have any list yourself, Brenda?
Gayle says
Love the Greatest Version of Myself, Hour of Power, and Gratitude. Giving and showing more gratitude leads us to become a better version of ourselves. And giving ourselves and hour of power daily will also improve who we are as people. Thank you for sharing these and inspiring me to be a better person daily.
Paul says
You are very welcome!
Emily says
I like the idea of an hour of power every day – maybe I’ll try it too!
Paul says
It is a good thing to try, Emily!
Vidya Tiru says
love the power hour idea.. i know what i need to work on for this year and going forward but need to put them down and my blog is the best place so it is out there…thank you for UBC..
Paul says
You are welcome, Vidya! Let me know how your hour of power turns out!
Julie says
Happy New Year! I don’t make resolutions or goals because I know I’ll never get to them. My real name should be procrastination! lol But I do hope to just have a good year and to make the most of it.
Paul says
Happy New Year to you as well, Julie! Is there anything you can do to help you get to where you want to go?
Daniela Pesconi-Arthur says
Hi Paul,
I LOVE this! We have very similar plans, and #gratitude is one of my words for 2018!
I also love the idea of a daily email series, and not only this is my year of personal growth, but also the year I will make sure I give to my community, and meet and help as many women as I can.
Have an amazing and successful 2018! 🙂
Dani
Paul says
