Ah, the age old question of, “How often should I blog?” For whatever reason, the “once a week” schedule for boosting brand-new content to your blog was considered the best frequency to post a blog post. This way of thinking was to keep Google happy, and you would receive a lot of visitors to your website. So bloggers figured that if they published once a week every week, then they would have 52 articles of brand-new content on their blog each year. This would keep the search engines happy, and they would be rewarded with lots of traffic.
Google does reinforce fresh, consistent content that is relevant to your blog’s primary niche or topic. However, Matt Cutts, Google guru and head spokesperson, has said time and again that The Big G (Google, that is) prefers quality over quantity. If you want a living example of this, then look no further than successful and well-known bloggers, Neil Patel, and Pat Flynn.
Both started out blogging by posting often – very often. They would send out 400, 500 or 600 statement posts once or twice a few weeks. They were moderately successful. It wasn’t until they started publishing blog posts of 1,500, 1,800, 2,000 or more statements on an infrequent basis that they started to see incredible growth.
You may be thinking that the switch to quantity, the highest number of words per blog post, was all that was needed for the increase in their businesses. That is not the case here at all. The reasons for their blog posts now lope more than 2,000 statements on a regular basis is because those posts deliver a ton of value and information.
Both Flynn and Patel expend a lot of time creating a blog post. This is necessary so that they may exclusively add a brand-new post once a month, or even less frequently than that. However, each post provides so much quality content that a user needs to go nowhere else to know everything about that particular blog post topic or theme.
The quality of the content is such that anyone interested in the topic would happily pay money for this free report. By placing the importance on excellence rather than quantity, those two globally recognized bloggers give more than $100,000 per month from their blogs. And to that I say…. “Nice!”
So, what is the secret recipe for blog post frequency?
There isn’t one. There is no magic number. There is no one answer for everyone. Just make sure that you are writing higher quality content than your competition. One unbelievable, one-stop,”everything you need to know” post published every month does much more for your business and your reputation than 4 or 5 monthly blog posts that are not much more than flub and filler.
As I write this, I am in the middle of hosting the Ultimate Blog Challenge where we are blogging 31 times in 31 days during the month of October. Keep in mind that we have different goals for the Ultimate Blog Challenge and our goal is slightly different than what is posted here.
Leave a comment below and share how many times a week/month you normally blog. Thanks!
