Have you ever noticed that you can hear something over and over again, but it does not sink in for some reason? And then, when you least expect it, you read it and the clarity you get is almost life altering!?
That just happened to me.
I was looking over the first module in Lynn Terry’s Niche Success Blueprint course and there at the bottom of the page was Benjamin Franklin’s quote,
“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.”
I have hear this saying time and time again. For some reason this morning when I read that… the room got brighter. The birds sang louder. The air smelled sweeter. The sun shined brighter.
OK – I might be exaggerating a bit here, but the truth is that I thought, “YES! I need to PLAN better!”
I have used a marketing plan in the past. I planned out when I was going to post on my blog, when I was going to email, when I was going to promote training, when I was going to do trainings. The funny part is that when I prepared like this, life in my business was great! There was little confusion on what I was going to do.
As the saying goes, “All good things must come to an end,” so did my practice of planning. Getting things accomplished was more of a To-Do list of immediate tasks based on client work. Sure, work was getting done (and this is work that is necessary to get paid), however, all the non-paying tasks were not getting accomplished.
I was not promoting. I was not doing trainings. I was not reaching out and filling my sales funnel. These are all things that need to be performed on a continual basis to grow a business.
With that said, I am going back to the drawing board and outlining my marking plan for the rest of the month as well as the next quarter!
How about you? Do you have a marketing plan in place? Do you just ‘Wing it?’ Leave a comment and let me know!
Thanks.
