You may have heard that a new release of WordPress is coming out (possibly within the month!) Version 3.3 is getting ready to be released and with it comes a lot of cool new features!
One feature/enhancement/fix has to do with how permalinks are handled! And this is good news!
First of all, in case you do not remember, Wikipedia defines permalink as:
A permalink (portmanteau of permanent link) is a URL that points to a specific blog or forum entry after it has passed from the front page to the archives. Because a permalink remains unchanged indefinitely, it is less susceptible to link rot. Most modern weblogging and content-syndication software systems support such links. Other types of websites use the term permanent links, but the term permalink is most common within the blogosphere. Permalinks are often simply stated so as to be human-readable.
In other words, your permalink structure sets the name of your pages and post on your website. Here at, I Need Help With WordPress, my permalink structure is set like:
Using the permalink structure of,聽 /%postname%/
has been the cause of debates throughout the land! With version 3.3, a new patch will be released that greatly improves the speed and scalability of how WordPress handles permalinks and other “verbose rewrite rules.”
What permalink structure are you using on your site?

I ike this idea, of WP3, my permalinks have a number in front and I was told I need to change them ( I have more than 300 like this one) to be able to have a better SEO.

Do you think that with this new version I will not have this problem anymore, Paul?
Thanks for your help.

I think the changes will be with respect to performance issues, Patricia. How the search engines apply their algorithms is another story. You will probably see your pages load a little quicker, which in turn makes Google happier, so that is good!
